Thrivent Runs with Purpose at 2025 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon
Thrivent’s sponsorship of the 2025 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon highlights brand storytelling, community impact and race-day engagement.
MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 25, 2025) – Thrivent, a Fortune 500 financial services company that puts generosity at the heart of saving and investing, announced today its sponsorship of the 2025 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, one of the 10 largest marathons in the U.S. The company will bring its “Where Money Means More™” national advertising campaign to life in a uniquely personal way. Jim Browning – a Thrivent client, Twin Cities resident and seasoned marathoner – will run the race surrounded by fellow runners that symbolize his financial plan. Together, they’ll embody a live, four-hour version of the concept showcased in Thrivent’s campaign.
“We proudly support Jim and all of the incredible Twin Cities Marathon runners and devoted fans as they take to the course this weekend,” said Thrivent’s EVP and Chief Growth & Generosity Officer Carolyn Sakstrup. “Our sponsorship is a fun and meaningful way to bring our national advertising campaign to life - showing how we move alongside clients like Jim with advice on their financial journey. Team Thrivent will be out in full force, cheering on Jim and celebrating the energy and community spirit of race day.”
Real client, real impact: Thrivent’s brand comes to life on the racecourse
Jim, a married father of three and aerospace professional, will serve as a real-life example of Thrivent’s purpose. For every step of the 26.2-mile marathon, he’ll be surrounded by runners in costume representing the people and causes close to his heart: a nurse, construction volunteer, high school grad, referee, park ranger, marching band member and a church choir member. It’s designed as a powerful visual metaphor that brings Thrivent’s national advertising campaign to life.
A commitment to community impact
In celebration of race weekend, Thrivent is donating $1,000 per mile to four local nonprofit organizations ($26,200 each):
- Minnesota Youth Athletic Services, selected by Jim.
- Habitat for Humanity Minnesota, Scholarship America and M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, selected for their lasting community impact and long-time partnership with Thrivent.
This race-day donation reflects Thrivent’s deep commitment to generosity and community impact, aligning with the company’s purpose. In 2024 alone, Thrivent and its clients raised and donated $331 million through the organization’s generosity programs and volunteered 15 million hours toward community service.
Marathon expo and race-day presence that inspires generosity
Thrivent’s presence will be felt throughout the 2025 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon experience – from the marathon expo to the finish line.
- At the expo, Thrivent will offer runners and spectators a chance to learn more about how the company helps people align their finances with their values. Runners can add the name of someone they’re running for to Thrivent’s Tree of Hearts or post an online comment supporting one of the nonprofits receiving Thrivent donations. See Thrivent.com/marathon for more.
- At the Mile 23 Financial Advisor Fan Stand (Summit Avenue & Saratoga Street, St. Paul), Thrivent Financial Advisors and their families will be cheering for marathoners to reach their running and financial goals. Race watchers are invited to join the fun, featuring a food truck and music.
